In this buying guide we are trying to help you narrow down your search for the perfect ice maker for your business.

What type of Ice do I want my machine to produce?

We stock a wide variety of ice machines at Alexanders. Many of them produce the standard thimble or full cube shape of ice which is perfect for many businesses as they can be used for cooling your beverages. We also stock half cube, chips, flakers and some models even some with heart shaped ice cubes! It’s all about your personal preference and what’s best for you. Although we recommend for purposes like displaying fish you use flake for ease of storage as you can embed the produce in the ice.

How much ice do I want my machine to produce?

This is the main factor when choosing an ice machine. The last thing we want our
customers to do is buy a machine that produces to little or too much ice for their needs. If you have figures that show how much ice you need per beverage you sell (or a rough estimate) you should be able to determine the size of machine you need. We provide units that go from as little as 20kg to 200kg+ so we can cover all bases of production. The most popular models for pubs, restaurants and hotels are the 40kg models. These provide a good steady production of ice but not to much that you have a surplus building up.

Do I need a water filter for my machine?

We always recommend that you have one of our filter kits ordered alongside your unit. A filter is designed to reduce unscheduled service calls associated with corrosion, sediment and scale build up in commercial cubers and flakers. This is the number one issue we come across when people order these units. Without continuous maintenance an ice maker can cease to function as limescale build up will coat the inside of the unit and cause major internal faults. The worst part is that this isn’t covered under manufactures warranty! So we sell these filter kits to reduce the need for maintenance and keep your machine healthy. The main factor to consider is the water type in your area. If it’s a hard water area you will definitely need a water filter as you are in an area with a high mineral content in its water. If you are in a soft water area the problem may not be a persistent but we still recommend you consider a filter with your purchase.
