At Alexanders we take your privacy seriously and want to be clear about the data we hold, why we hold it and how we process it.
Taking both the Data Protection Act of 1998 and the new GDPR regulations (coming into effect on 25 May 2018) we have set out below how we use data. This page is designed to provide you with information about the data we collect, how we use it and the options you have to update and remove your data. We may change our privacy policy from time to time so please come back and check if you are unsure about any information.

Data Collected
We collect and use your data for genuine business purposes, when you’ve approved us to do so or when we’re obliged to legally. There are a few different scenarios we would collect your data:
- To process orders and arrange delivery.
- To keep a history to aid in warranty claims/disputes.
- To help with customer satisfaction and reviews on service and products.
- Newsletter and promotional marketing material.
- Website analytics for site improvements, nothing to identify you as an individual.
- To maintain registered accounts.
- For crime or fraud prevention purposes.
Stored Data Collected
When an order is placed online or by phone a record is created, this includes all available information and is used to arrange delivery. A history will be kept to help the customer place further orders, be contacted for relevant reviews and help with warranty claims in the future.
If applicable you will be contacted after your delivery date to give you the opportunity to review the product and the service you received. If you haven’t opted into our newsletter subscription this will be the only time you are contacted.
If you have opted into or subscribed to our newsletters, occasional news, promotional material and offers will be emailed to the address provided.
Being forgotten/Updating info
On all of our emails have an unsubscribe button on the end of the email. Alternatively you can update your communication preferences by logging into your account, or if you call or email you to delete your information and ‘be forgotten’ (01264 333388 – info@alexanders-direct.co.uk)
Once we have received your request your information will be updated within 72 hours and a confirmation email will be sent.
Security
In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
Our website is secure and has a SSL certificate which activates the padlock in your browser and the https protocol and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser.
Online payments are through the secure Sage Pay portal with peace of mind that your data is secure with Sage’s level 1 PCI DSS certification, with advanced fraud screening tools as standard. We do not hold or have any access to any of your card details.
Our accounting package, email client and CRM are all the latest secure packages and passwords are periodically updated.
How we use cookies
A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer's hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. We use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyse data about web page traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We only use this information for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system.

Depending on how you contacted us your data may be stored in a few different places:
- The Alexanders website (for web orders and newsletter subscribers).
- Accounts (for order processing and warranty info).
- Email client (third party marketing emails).
- Master Customer Relations database.
Controlling your personal information
You may choose to restrict the collection or use of your personal information in the following ways:
- whenever you are asked to fill in a form on the website, look for the box that you can click to indicate that you do not want the information to be used by anybody for direct marketing purposes
- if you have previously agreed to us using your personal information for direct marketing purposes, you may change your mind at any time by writing to or emailing us at sales@alexanders-direct.co.uk
We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission or are required by law to do so. We may use your personal information to send you promotional information about third parties which we think you may find interesting if you tell us that you wish this to happen.
You may request details of personal information which we hold about you under the Data Protection Act 1998. A small fee will be payable. If you would like a copy of the information held on you please write to .
