From the 1st of March 2021, the look and meaning of appliance energy labels will have transitioned into a new system to compensate for the fact that in the last decade household appliances have also transitioned to minimise energy and water usage, the complex A+++ through D energy rating system has become the much easier to understand A to G scale. This was done with the goal of making it much simpler to understand which appliances are the most energy efficient as well as incentivising manufacturers to advance their appliances technology to reach the green standard of A once again.

In the old rating system an A+++ rated appliance would be considered the best possible but it is now likely as low as a B or C on the new system, appliances rated A using the new system are much more efficient than previous A+++ units. On the new energy rating labels, appliances are given a new noise rating based on noise missions which are rated on a scale between A to D scale similar to the energy rating itself. The energy rating for Lighting appliances will be unchanged until the 1st of October 2021.

Examples of products that will have been effected by this change include: Dishwashers, Glasswashers, Washers & Dryers, Refrigerators & Freezers and Wine Coolers.
